What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a technique that uses direct electric current (DC) to drive a non-spontaneous chemical reaction, such as breaking down a compound into its elements. In cosmetics, it refers to permanently removing individual hairs by destroying the follicle's growth center with an electric current
- How it works: An electrologist inserts a fine, sterile probe (the needle) directly into the hair follicle. A quick burst of electrical current is delivered, which destroys the root and growth cells of the hair.
- Types of methods: Practitioners use thermolysis (heat), galvanic (chemical action), or a blend of both depending on the thickness of the hair and the patient's pain tolerance.
- Benefits: It works on all skin and hair types. Unlike laser hair removal, which mainly targets dark hair, electrolysis safely treats blonde, red, gray, and white hairs.
- Considerations: Because each hair is treated individually, it requires multiple sessions to achieve permanent results and can take 6 to 18 months depending on the area being treated.
